Chinese New Year Day Traditions

Yes it’s time to share the wealth, make it rain red envelopes.

Red Envelopes

In Chinese tradition the color red brings good fortune and wealth. It is used to ward off evil and bring luck.

Traditionally married couples and elderly adults give red envelopes to family, friends and employees in the first days of the New Year

Skip House Chores

Put that laundry down, it can wait! That goes for any house cleaning too. Avoid washing your hair or you could wash all your good fortune down the drain!

Put Down The Scissors

Just say no to knives or scissors on New Year’s Day. Doing so will avoid cutting off your fortune and luck for the year.
