Li Dong is the first solar term of the winter season. In ancient times ‘Standing Up of Winter’ was an important festival when the Emperor followed by groups of officials would come to the suburb of the capital to offer a large sacrifice to heaven. Nowadays, people celebrate with Jiaozi (dumplings), winter swimming, and eating mutton, beef, and carrots.

Xiao Xue as we are in the depth of shao yin (小陰), approaching tai yin (太陰), remember that nature is pulling back and going deep within itself.
